Sports Chiropractic at Grimes Family Chiropractic

kids playing soccerIn the U.S., about 30 million children and teens participate in some form of organized sport. More than 3.5 million injuries happen each year. Almost one-third of all childhood injuries are sports-related ones, with the majority being sprains and strains.

Obviously, some sports are more dangerous than others. For example, contact sports such as football can be expected to result in a higher number of injuries than a non-contact sport such as swimming. However, all types of sports have a potential for injury, whether from the trauma of contact with other players or from overuse or misuse of a body part.

Our Approach

Sports related injuries that we commonly see at Grimes Family Chiropractic include but are not limited to:

  • Carpal tunnel
  • Frozen shoulder
  • Tennis elbow
  • Sprained ankle
  • Knee discomfort
  • Hip discomfort

All types of sports have a potential for injury, whether from the trauma of contact with other players or from overuse or misuse of a body part. All of these conditions have one thing in common; they can be managed with chiropractic care. At Grimes Family Chiropractic, we work with athletes of all ages to address sports injuries. Along with the joints of the spine, we can work on extremities such as the jaw, ribs, shoulders, elbows, wrists, hands/fingers, hips, knees, ankles and feet. Most injuries to extremities result in joints not moving properly.

Chiropractic care can help restore proper motion to these joints, enabling the surrounding soft tissue to heal properly. Rehabilitation of joints and soft tissue also makes re-injury less likely.

Customized Care

Different types of injuries require different care. We can help you create a care plan regarding when you should return to physical activity, the type of physical activity that is safe while your body is healing, and how often you should exercise after you have healed.

We can also provide information on proper posture and technique, stretching, and warm-up and cool-down exercises to help you prevent injury. We advise you on nutrition, hydration and avoiding muscle strain.

We also teach you how to recognize the difference between muscle pain and injury, and how to know the warning signs of a possible injury.
